SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
In an effort to slow telomere shortening, which Terraternal believes to lie at the heart of aging, the company has just launched "Telomere Guard", a product targeted at newly understood mechanisms behind telomere loss.
The so-called 'end replication problem', where the DNA-copying mechanism employed during cell division is unable to copy the last little bit of the telomere, was previously believed to be the sole cause of telomere shortening. Recent studies [Yokoo, Lorenz, Saretzki] have shown however that other processes, such as certain types of oxidative stress and common methylation problems, significantly accelerate telomere loss as well. So much is this the case that a number of natural compounds which are uniquely able to combat these processes have been shown, both in vitro and in vivo, to slow the shortening rate down by over 50%.
The new product is a combination of natural supplements, some common and some rare, that address these problems and have each been shown independently, either in vitro or in vivo, to significantly slow down telomere loss.
