Test Shows Cotton Towels Breeding Ground for Life-Threatening Bacteria, 99.8% Bug-Resistant Microfiber Alternative Hits the Consumer Marketplace From Laguna Blue
National Institutes of Health Report "MRSA Bacteria Kills More People than HIV" New Laguna Blue Swim Beach-Sized Towel Launched with Olympian Gold Medal Swimmer, Summer Sanders
JACKSON, Miss., May 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the National Institutes of Health, the antibiotic-resistant MRSA bacteria kills more people than HIV. A laboratory test conducted by Dr. Murray Cohen, Science Advisor and Infectious Control Consultant, PhD MPH, CIH compared cotton to microfiber towels as a bacteria transfer mechanism. The test showed that MRSA sticks to clean cotton towels 75% more often in comparison to only 0.25% of the time with microfiber. After 34 years being in the commercial laundry/linen industry and focused on preventing the spread of infection, the company has a history in products within the medical innovation field. Enviro-Linen provides bacteria-resistant microfiber towels to nursing homes, hospitals and hotels, as well as medical grade MRSA resistant scrubs. Enviro-Linen LLC launched Laguna Blue, a sister company, to provide safe MRSA resistant towels directly to consumers. A soft, fluffy, patterned microfiber Laguna Blue Swim beach-sized towel is launching just in time for swim season. Olympic gold medal swimmer, Summer Sanders, is kicking off the launch by visiting health reporters in New York City, July 11 and 12, 2017.
Laguna Blue's inspiration came about when one of the co-owners, Kenny Perry, contracted a MRSA infection from a gym towel that became so serious doctors recommended his leg be amputated. Together with Bert Rubinsky, CEO, their company is fully committed to preventing the spread of bacteria. "Our companies exist to keep humans healthy. Laguna Blue exists to keep people healthy and free of harmful bacteria when using towels at home, the pool, in hospitals, hotels and gyms."
"In a world where natural seems like a good thing," said President, Debbie Wideroe, "it may seem counter intuitive to say that cotton can be dangerous. Because it takes such a long time to dry and towels are often left damp on locker room, shower floors and on wet pool decks, they breed bacteria. Sadly, no matter how hot the water, how warm the dryer or how clean the towels appear to be, MRSA lives on organic materials and towels are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Laguna Blue's wonderfully soft and fluffy microfiber was created to provide consumers with an ecofriendly towel that is also safe."
The Laguna Blue Swim SWIM towels are offered in two designs, one a blue and white contemporary water drop pattern and the other a classic blue and white cabana stripe. Laguna Blue is available at Walmart and on Amazon.
Olympic gold medal swimmer Summer Sanders has a lot to say about towel hygiene: "I have a close relationship with my towels. I've suffered three horrible staph infections; one that took 3 different doses of antibiotics to finally kill. This towel will keep you from wondering what locker room and pool deck germs you just brought into your gym bag and back home. As a swimmer, we live around germ breeding grounds: water, heat and humans, so for me, this product is a game changer! I can't tell you what a joy it is to not lug around a heavy bag full of water-logged, germy and heavy cotton towels. Better yet, this soft microfiber is shockingly water absorbent. People think that more chlorine in a pool kills bugs, but it only makes your eyes hurt."
About: The brainchild of CEO Bert Rubinsky and inspired by COO Kenny Perry, who survived a life-threating MRSA infection he contracted from a cotton gym towel, Laguna Blue is a line of super soft plush bacteria-resistant towels for home and swim. Comparably-priced to high-end cotton linens, Laguna Blue microfiber towels are 99.8% effective in preventing the spread of germs and diseases, dry 50% faster, absorb more water than cotton and are endorsed by Olympian gold medalist swimmer, Summer Sanders. Laguna Blue is the consumer-facing sister brand of Enviro-Linen LLC, who for 34 years has been providing commercial entities from nursing home to hotels with safer linens and medical grade scrubs to health practitioners.
