The Animal Medical Center Names New Chief Medical Officer - Richard E. Goldstein DVM, DACVIM, DECVIM-CA
NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Animal Medical Center (AMC) has named Richard E. Goldstein DVM, DACVIM, DECVIM-CA to the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). In this new capacity, Dr. Goldstein will be responsible for the oversight of all clinical activities and lead The AMC's medical staff of over 80 veterinarians working across 17 specialized veterinary services in a 24/7 environment. Dr. Goldstein also oversees The AMC's extensive postgraduate education program.
As CMO, Dr. Goldstein will maintain the highest standards in quality patient care, research and education and help strengthen and expand The AMC's clinical vision, strategy and focus. He will work closely with his core team of AMC service heads to continually enhance the quality, safety and efficiency of care provided to patients. In addition, Goldstein plans to drive evidence-based medicine outcomes and best practices at The AMC by harnessing the power of its new electronic medical records system. Previously, Dr. Goldstein was Chief of Medicine at The Animal Medical Center.

Dr. Goldstein holds a dual board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine as well as the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Companion Animals. He graduated from the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine in Israel and did a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of California at Davis. He was a faculty member at Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, most recently as an Associate Professor of Small Animal Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty at Cornell, Dr. Goldstein spent two years in a private specialty practice in Southern California.
He currently serves on the Editorial Review Board for multiple veterinary journals and is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Endocrinology Society Research Award and the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award.
An internationally respected clinician, researcher, author, lecturer and teacher, Dr. Goldstein has published over 60 research papers and textbook chapters to date. He is a world-renowned expert in infectious diseases in dogs and cats, especially those that affect kidneys, such as Lyme disease and Leptospirosis.
