The Big Draw LA: Month-Long Celebration of Drawing
Over 75 Southern California Events throughout October 2013
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Big Draw LA, a month-long audience participatory drawing initiative that spans the globe, is underway in Los Angeles for the fourth year this October. The Big Draw LA creates opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to discover that drawing can enhance how they see, think, and invent. It is presented in Southern California by Ryman Arts, an arts education organization that fosters the education of gifted young artists. Over 75 Big Draw LA events have been organized throughout Southern California. Within the first two weeks, hundreds of adults and youth have participated in a wide variety of diverse events. More than 40 events are still scheduled for the remainder of the month. Most are free to the public.
Over 40 Events Still Scheduled for October
Local organizations—clubs, schools, community centers, businesses, and museums—have organized public drawing events for October, including three events by Ryman Arts at Grand Park, Grand Central Art Center, and a TEDx Youth Conference. Other organizations hosting events include the Skirball Cultural Center, Fullerton Public Library, Camera Obscura Building, Art Share LA, Los Angeles Public Library, Grand Park, Fowler Museum, One Eyed Gypsy, and San Gabriel Valley Pride in addition to Ryman Arts.
An Evening of Drawing at Santa Ana's Grand Central Art Center: November 2
Ryman Arts and Grand Central Art Center present "An Evening of Drawing," Saturday, November 2, from 7 – 10 p.m., as part of the Santa Ana Art Walk. Artists will lead Orange County participants in a series of playful activities, celebrating the Los Angeles Aqueduct Centennial. FREE.
Flagship Event: "Make Your Mark in the Park" on October 13
The Big Draw LA flagship event, "Make Your Mark in the Park," took place on Sunday, October 13 at Los Angeles' Grand Park. A fun-filled, creative afternoon, it featured eight drawing activities including comic book-making, kinesthetic drawing, sketchbook-making, and tape drawing, transforming Grand Park into a giant experimental drawing studio. Ryman Arts students helped lead the efforts, engaging the public in this enormous collaborative art project.
