The City of Hoover and SFM announce the name of the premier new sports development in Hoover, Alabama.
HOOVER, Ala., Oct. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 10 months after the development was approved and announced to the general public, the sports and recreation project of the upscale Birmingham suburb of Hoover has been named. Jack Wright, Hoover City Council President says, "We felt the name was crucially important and didn't want to rush the process. Key members of the city staff, community leaders as well as the city council all support this new name. We're excited and proud to unveil the name of our newest sports and recreation asset to the community."
Jason Clement, CEO of The Sports Facilities Management, the management firm overseeing the project, including marketing, and his team were instrumental in the naming process. "We assembled a task force within our company and City of Hoover staff to evaluate the naming options from a local, national, and marketable perspective. We feel naming the entire development The Hoover Met Sports District represents the local community's influence and ownership over this development. The city council members have made it clear that community use is the number one goal for this project."
As for the 155,000 square-foot indoor sports facility located in the Hoover Met Sports District, the SFM team wanted to ensure national-level name recognition and marketability. "With years of experience marketing sports tourism destinations like Rocky Top Sports World (Gatlinburg, TN) and Myrtle Beach Sports Center (Myrtle Beach, SC) we felt it was really important to give the indoor facility a name with prominence." The facility which opens in May of 2017 has officially been named The Alabama Sports & Events Center.
Paying homage to the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium which is lovingly and locally referred to simply as "The Met", the group announced the indoor facility will have a similar style nickname: "The BAM". Council President Wright says "The BAM refers to the AlaBAMa portion of the name and has a certain high energy 'kick' that we think kids will love and is very memorable. We're excited to have not just a name, but a brand developed to make this project a success for Hoover residents."
Clement added, "Anyone who has seen the construction progress occurring on site recognizes the way this will impact the health and economic viability of the City. More families will get to play, compete, and participate in the healthy outcomes of sport as a result of this development. The name will reflect the energy, passion, and diversity in activities that will take place in the venue." The state-of-the-art facility will serve as a community recreation center with 17 volleyball courts, 11 basketball courts, event space, a general store, café, and Clip N' Climb family entertainment center.
