The Decoration and Design Building Announces The 2012 Stars of Design Honorees; New Category to Salute "Stars on the Rise"

NEW YORK, Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Decoration and Design Building (DDB)'s jury has selected this year's Stars of Design Honorees, and will celebrate them with a black-tie dinner and ceremony on Wednesday, October 10^th, the first day of the DDB Fall Market, announces Charles S. Cohen, President/Owner of the DDB.

Mr. Cohen will serve as the host of the event, which, in keeping with tradition, takes place at the building – 979 Third Avenue, in the Astra Cafe, with cuisine provided by Charlie Palmer – and is attended by the design industry's elite.

The 2012 honorees are:

The event also will salute five winners of a new award category called "Stars on the Rise," established this year.  Recipients are distinguished designers emerging as the new guard in the world of New York design.  They include:

• Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller of Carrier & Company
• Jayne Michaels and Joan Michaels of 2 Michaels

Established over a decade ago in Los Angeles at Pacific Design Center and expanded to New York City, Miami and Houston six years ago, the Stars of Design recognize and honor creative talent and significant contributions to a wide range of design disciplines and communities, both locally and internationally.  

The judges who selected this year's honorees are industry leaders and experts in the fields of art, home furnishings, architecture and design, along with three award winners from last year.
