The 'Defend Freedom' Veterans Tour -- October 2013

Honor Service. Defend Freedom. Take Action.

ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A group of decorated military veterans will embark on a 25-day bus tour beginning October 4, traveling from coast to coast on the 'Defend Freedom' Tour. The tour, spanning most of the month of October, will provide a platform for veterans to tell their stories, honor service and explore ways to continue fighting for freedom here at home. The bus tour includes dozens of stops in Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina. Over 750 people (and growing) have already RSVP'd for the October 4 kick-off event in Las Vegas.

The tour, sponsored by Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) — a national, non-profit organization of veterans, military family members, and patriotic Americans — will take messages of service, freedom and the American dream from coast to coast. A high-profile list of decorated veterans have joined the tour; read more about tour participants, and the tour, at www.DefendFreedomTour.com.

"Unfortunately, our great nation is failing to live up to its potential, and in particular, failing in its commitment to our veterans," said Pete Hegseth, CEO of CVA. "That's why we're taking our messages to the people, to help build our activist base so that veterans, their families and friends will join us to promote the values that will keep this nation strong, fiscally sound, proud and responsible."

Among the issues the tour will focus on are the following:

  • Preserving our promises to veterans by reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs; especially the backlog of 500,000 veteran' benefits claims.
  • Reforming Pentagon spending, to ensure we maintain the strongest military in the world and America takes care of troops.
  • Tackling our nation's $17 trillion debt, which is both an economic and security threat.
  • Getting veterans involved so they can continue to serve America here at home.

"We expect courage and accountability from our leaders," said Hegseth. "To maintain our strength as a country we need a powerful, consistent force advocating for policies that lead to a strong national defense, free markets, fiscal discipline, and a government that respects the freedoms America's veterans and their families sacrificed so much to defend." "That's why veterans are coming forward now:  They know how to make their voices heard, and they understand what it means to be a part of something larger than themselves."

Concerned Veterans for America is a nation-wide, non-profit veterans organization established to advocate for policies that will preserve the freedom and prosperity that veterans and their families have so proudly fought and sacrificed to defend. In just over a year, over 140,000 Americans have joined CVA on Facebook.
