The Fatima Group Thanks Senator Bob Casey for Recognition of the Company's Efforts to Protect Coalition Troops and Civilians Through a New Fertilizer Formula and Enhanced Product Stewardship Efforts
WASHINGTON, March 6, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from The Fatima Group:
"The Fatima Group today thanked Senator Bob Casey, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, for his recognition of the company's groundbreaking breakthrough in the creation of a new fertilizer formula that promises to prevent misuse in Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
"We continue to coordinate closely with Lt. Gen Barbero of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) to regularly update him on the progress we have made over the past 18 months as we have found a new formula to replace the Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) fertilizer. These updates include information regarding the testing of our new product formulation.
"We agree wholeheartedly with Senator Casey that this issue is one of worldwide, maximum importance. Every step we have taken speaks to the seriousness with which we have acted in protecting the lives of coalition troops and civilians. This new formulation will have worldwide benefits.
"At the same time we have voluntarily halted distribution of CAN in the Pakistani provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan, which border Afghanistan; and instituted a CAN buy-back program in these provinces to further reduce the availability of CAN to those who would mis-use it.
"We will continue to work closely with the United States to test and evaluate this new product."
