The Flatiron School Launches Android For Developers Program to Address Tech Talent Shortage
NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Flatiron School, a coding school for web and mobile software development, today announced the launch of the Android for Developers training program. The ten week course will focus on the skills needed to be a proficient Android developer. The curriculum has been tailored to fit current market demands and is based on Google's set of requirements for Android design and application. The Flatiron School is the only school in New York to offer in-person training for Android development.
The Android for Developers program at The Flatiron School was created to teach developers with at least one year of object-oriented programming experience in the design patterns, frameworks, and environments, necessary to be fully productive Android developers. Demand for Android developers in the mobile marketplace is increasing rapidly as popularity for Android applications grow. According to recent data from Cyber Coders, job postings for Android developers increased by 110% versus a 54% increase in iOS job postings between 2012 to 2014.
Leaders in the tech community agree that Android programming education is needed to support the talent pipeline. "We need more Android developers in the tech talent pipeline not only in New York, but worldwide," said Kris Arnold, Lead Engineer, Native Apps for Shutterstock. "The Flatiron School is the first in-person immersive coding academy I've seen to tackle this problem head-on."
Adam Enbar, CEO and Founder of The Flatiron School says, "We've heard repeatedly from today's leading tech companies, including many of our existing partners, of the demand for Android developers. I am thrilled that we can apply The Flatiron School method of rigorous curriculum combined with high quality in-person instruction to tackle this challenge. We're excited to provide an accessible and cost effective option for our students, continue to share our passion for code and expand upon the courses taught at Flatiron to meet market need."
The Android for Developers curriculum is consistent with that of Flatiron School's existing web and mobile courses. Students completing the program will build and deploy Android applications to the Google Play Store, and will leave qualified to be productive members of development teams working in the Android ecosystem. All courses will be taught onsite at The Flatiron School campus. Enrollment for the first course will open today.
