NEW YORK, June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A key material for the production of synthetic rubber, such as those used in tyres as well as other rubbers. Butadiene is currently short on supply and suffers from price volatility. The main supply of Butadiene is extracted from the mixed c4 stream produced in steam crackers, the c4 stream composition and yield depending on operations severity and feedstocks. The rising price of butadiene in addition to its short supply is due in part to steam crackers shifting to lighter feedstocks such as the gas fed crackers in the Middle East, which have little butadiene co-product, coal-to-olefins plants in China, which produce no butadiene and the development of shale gas in the United States.
New butadiene capacity additions will be concentrated in Asia Pacific, particularly in China and India where a slate of new naphtha crackers are coming online.
The derivatives of butadiene are a variety of synthetic rubbers and polymer resins, such as styrene butadiene rubber, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, styrene butadiene Latex etc.
This report provides intelligence and analysis on butadiene supply sources, demand drivers and trade. The report includes a 5 year history and 10 year forecast for all major producing regions listed below with new capacity additions documented. The report includes demand of butadiene into its end use applications such as butadiene rubbers, SBR, etc., making use of intelligence within Petrochemical Reporters data base to obtain a detailed analysis of demand based on derivative consumption. An overview of each of the commercial technologies mentioned will be included in the appendix along with a detailed methodology.
