The Hanover Sponsors National Baseball Hall Of Fame And Museum Babe Ruth Exhibit All-Time Great's 1920 Letter Thanking The Hanover for Prompt Service Featured in the Museum
WORCESTER, Mass., June 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. (NYSE: THG) is honored to be a sponsor of a new gallery at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum celebrating the unmatched legacy of Babe Ruth, an American icon—and one of The Hanover's most famous former policyholders.
Babe Ruth: His Life and Legend opened today at America's baseball shrine in Cooperstown, New York, marking the 100th anniversary of his big league debut. "The Bambino" is a member of the Hall of Fame's inaugural Class of 1936, and the new exhibit features a completely new look at a player whose standards and accomplishments in the game still stand today.
The Hanover's connection to The Babe dates to 1920, when the company insured his Packard roadster. The Hanover's prompt service that year inspired Ruth to write the following letter, which appeared in the New York Tribune on October 29, 1920: I thank you for the quick action and efficient manner in which you handled matters relative to the recent accident to my Packard roadster... I cheerfully recommend the type of service you are giving. Yours truly, Babe Ruth. A copy of that letter is included in the new museum exhibit.
"The Hanover is proud to sponsor this exhibit celebrating the extraordinary accomplishments of Babe Ruth, and to be included in the exhibit," said Richard W. Lavey, The Hanover's president of field operations and chief marketing officer. "We take great pride in Babe Ruth's endorsement of our responsive service 94 years ago. Today, we continue to deliver distinctive value and to take pride in the strong testimonials of our service by our agent partners and their customers."
