The Iron Yard Partners with Cloudspace to Offer Ruby on Rails Scholarship
ORLANDO, Fla., May 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Software development jobs are in high demand. A recent Orlando Sentinel article noted that there will be 1 million more tech jobs than workers by 2020. They followed that statistic up with good news:
To address that, code schools teach programming skills in multiple languages, with even The Iron Yard's multiple locations offering different courses. For example, the Orlando location teaches students how to build mobile applications, as well as the popular coding language Ruby on Rails. But the goal remains the same at all schools: train those looking for a new career path to survive in a sought-after field.
The Iron Yard recently announced an exciting partnership with Cloudspace, an Orlando-based, internationally respected development shop with a strong emphasis on Ruby on Rails. Cloudspace is a member of The Iron Yard's Advisory Board and supports the school by providing guest lectures, tours and more.
They've taken their relationship one step further to create a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in The Iron Yard's upcoming 12-week, immersive Ruby on Rails course. The May 18th class will be the second Ruby on Rails cohort in Orlando, and Cloudspace is offering a $3,00 scholarship towards tuition as well as an opportunity speak at the Cloudspace meetup.
Applicants simply need to write a short 250 word essay explaining what they would build when if they graduated from The Iron Yard. (Here is a link to the application.) Submissions will be judged jointly by The Iron Yard and Cloudspace.
For those looking to become launch a career in technology, The Iron Yard is a great launchpad. Their 3-month courses are mentorship-driven and go far deeper than part-time classes or online learning platforms.
The Sentinel article highlights a Disney retiree in Orlando who tried to learn to code on their own, but ultimately found their answer in The Iron Yard:
The Disney retiree said he has tried to learn how to program...using books or online tutorials. But he never really hit on an effective method until the Iron Yard. "Nowadays, you can't stop learning," he said. "The world is changing too much. It's changing daily. If you don't keep learning, you'll fall behind."
