The LAGRANT Foundation Celebrates Its 15th Anniversary By Awarding A Quarter Of A Million Dollars In Scholarships The LAGRANT Foundation is set to award 36 scholarships to Ethnic Minority College Students Majoring in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2013/2014 academic year for ethnic minorities pursuing degrees in advertising, marketing or public relations. Applications must be submitted by February 28, 2013 via www.lagrantfoundation.org.
In honor of the 15th anniversary, TLF will award a quarter of a million dollars ($250,000) to 36 exemplary students as they prepare to enter some of the most constantly evolving industries. Twenty-two undergraduate students will receive scholarships of $5,000 each and 14 graduate students will receive a $10,000 scholarship.
To qualify for the scholarship, students must be of African American/Black, American Indian/Native American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, or Hispanic/Latino descent pursuing degrees in advertising, marketing or public relations at an accredited college or university. Undergraduate students must have a minimum of a 2.75 GPA and graduate students must have a minimum of a 3.2 GPA. Recipients must be available to attend all TLF scholarship events and make a commitment to maintain contact with the Foundation for assistance with professional development. These commitments are explained in depth on TLF's website, www.lagrantfoundation.org. Additionally, scholarship recipients are expected to be future advocates of TLF, spreading information about various resources offered by the Foundation so that the next generation of students can also benefit.
Scholarship winners attending college east of Chicago will receive a trip to New York City while recipients attending college west of Chicago will receive a trip to Seattle to celebrate TLF's 15th Anniversary Scholarship Recognition Reception and Awards Program. The program in New York will be on May 20 and the program in Seattle will be on May 30. Recipients will participate in a daylong career development workshop and have the opportunity to meet with industry professionals.
The LAGRANT Foundation was founded as a result of the blatant lack of representation of minorities within the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations. Founder/Chairman Kim L. Hunter has devoted his efforts in building opportunities for minorities to break into these particular fields, by giving them the tools needed to be successful future leaders.
Tiana Ford, a 2012 undergraduate scholarship recipient, reflects on her memorable experience as a first time recipient attending the 14th anniversary awards program in Washington D.C. "This was an unforgettable experience. I was able to connect with likeminded students and successful professionals to establish friendships that will last for a lifetime. I left (the awards program) charged to continue to excel academically, enhance my networking capabilities and improve my level of professionalism. Thank you LAGRANT Foundation for giving me a chance to be apart of such a great program."
With the help of TLF's committed board of directors and donors, TLF continues to strive toward achieving its mission of increasing ethnic minorities in advertising, marketing and public relations.
