The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Creates a Movement to End Cancer Asks Consumers to Declare It! LLS Brand Platform -- Someday is Today -- Adds Call to Action to Raise Awareness of Need for Blood Cancer Cures

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As the leading global nonprofit dedicated to finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is building on the successful launch of its Someday is Today brand platform by asking the public to Declare It. Cancer Ends With Me - a strong call for consumers to engage with the LLS mission.

In February 2013, LLS launched a bold new campaign, including a unique public service announcement (PSA) declaring that we're closer than ever to cancer cures. The organization is taking it a step further, to show that every individual can make a positive impact in the fight against blood cancers, and it's using traditional media and extensive social outreach to create a groundswell of awareness for the LLS mission.

"With Cancer Ends With Me, we're making it personal," explains LLS Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Lisa Stockmon. "This is the next phase of our Someday is Today platform; we are creating a movement to show that we can all impact the fight to end blood cancers.  We're leveraging every channel possible to spread the word, including a new PSA, Out of Home advertising, compelling social media messaging and inspiring survivor stories of hope and inspiration, to compel the public to participate in our fundraising campaigns or donate to LLS directly."

Declare It. Cancer Ends With Me.

LLS and "Nashville" star Charles Esten have teamed up to ask consumers to join forces and declare their support for the LLS mission.  Esten's 14-year-old daughter, Addie, was diagnosed with leukemia at age 2 ½ and, thanks to advances in treatment, is thriving today. Because of their personal connection to blood cancer, Chip, his wife Patty, and the entire Esten clan are strong supporters of LLS.

"It was a dark and scary day when we found out that our Addie had leukemia. The first ray of light was the reassurance from our doctor that there was hope - there were medicines and procedures that could help our little girl. All that hope, and all that help, came from research…research made possible with funds raised by LLS and other organizations. That's why we're helping LLS ask everyone who wants to make the end of cancer a reality to go to cancerendswithme.org and declare it," states Esten.

Over its 64 year history, LLS has invested almost $1 billion in research to advance breakthrough treatments in its quest to make someday, today, for blood cancer patients.  As there are no means of preventing or early screening for most blood cancers, LLS focuses on finding cures and improving the quality of life for patients and families.

"Thanks to research and better treatments, survival rates for many blood cancers have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the 1960s," states LLS President & CEO, John Walter.  "But, despite these advances, more than a third of blood cancer patients don't survive five years after diagnosis. That's why it's vital for us to continue to generate awareness for our mission and raise funds to invest in cures and access to lifesaving therapies."

About "Someday is Today"
The Someday is Today initiative launched nationally in February 2013, to broaden awareness of LLS and create a lasting platform to increase revenue from our fundraising campaigns and individual donations, as well as to expand our current donor base. Someday is Today is built on the insight that the more people support organizations and causes when they can have a positive impact. The platform was developed by LLS in conjunction with branding agency Interplanetary.
