The Lifelong Care Network Launches a Blog, The Good Long Life, Covering Retirement, Insurance, Caregiving and Wellness and More
NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lifelong Care Network announces the launch of its revamped website at www.lifelongcarenetwork.com and of its blog, www.thegoodlonglife.com, covering caregiving, retirement, insurance, travel, and wellness.
"At the Lifelong Care Network, we offer life insurance, long-term care insurance and annuities," says Jim Robertson. "As my wife Mary joins me in launching the blog, we are addressing a range of topics that are of interest to us, and we hope other Americans who are approaching retirement as well. We made caregiving a primary focus of the blog as we know how deeply caregiving is entwined with long term-care insurance."
"We are telling the stories of how we take care of each other— our moms and dads and siblings in their old age," Jim continues. "We were inspired to focus on caregiving after reading the book by Jane Gross 'A Bittersweet Season.' She gave us valuable insights that informed our own caregiving. Now we in turn, hope to add something valuable to the caregiving conversation through our own blog."
On retirement, there are posts contrasting the retirement of Mary's dad, Leo, with the retirement landscape today. Leo's pension from General Motors gave him a secure retirement. "My family's story used to be the norm for millions of middle class Americans," Mary says. "Now his retirement story is rare enough to be fading from our collective memory. I'm sure my father, and others of his generation who sent their children to college, would be surprised to see their kids now in their fifties, reinventing themselves in an uncertain economy and working into their retirement to supplement their incomes."
Jim is an insurance professional with more than 20 years experience at Northwestern Mutual, and since 2006 as a private agent representing multiple companies. He put himself through college as an aide in a nursing home, and that experience formed his part as an insurance professional and led him to choose long-term care insurance as a specialization.
Mary has worked in public relations for more than 20 years, and more recently social media. "Through the blog, I want to share the lessons of taking my mother, father, and brother through their caregiving needs," Mary says. "Each time, we faced new challenges whether the care was received at home or in a facility, whether dementia was involved or not. Many of our friends are facing similar situations, so we hope our experiences will help them and others navigate this process."
On the insurance front, Jim has written several posts on long-term care insurance as an intelligent safety net. "In spite of the rising costs, LTC insurance remains one of the best safeguards to insure that families don't spend their life savings on care costs," Jim says.
The blog had a soft launch at the beginning of the summer. "We are very encouraged by the reception we've had to The Good Long Life blog so far," Mary says.
