LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Peak Achievement Training announces the release of its new product, The Mood Elevator (www.moodelevator.net), which includes a training method that has been shown to be 84% effective in relieving treatment-resistant depression. A large scale study showed that this new brainwave biofeedback method took only six 20-minute sessions to improve scores on a depression measurement scale by over 50%, and that this improvement lasted for at least a year. In fact, the results at follow-up were better than immediately after treatment.
This new approach appears to be a long-lasting treatment for a very difficult problem, since over 9% of the US population is depressed, and depression is the second leading cause of disability, worldwide.
The study of 184 patients was published in a refereed scientific publication, the Journal of NeuroTherapy, by Dallas psychiatrist and neurotherapist, Dr. Jonathan Walker. The paper states that "These results suggest that [this] training is more likely to significantly decrease depression in a sustained fashion in such patients than the following treatments: switching medications, psychotherapy, electroshock therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, LENS, vagus nerve stimulation, deep brain stimulation, or frontal alpha asymmetry training." The paper also reported that it was "not associated with any significant side effects or complications."
Peak Achievement Training is offering the Mood Elevator (www.moodelevator.net), a series of brainwave biofeedback screen designs based on Walker's work, as an add-on to its current flagship system, the Peak BrainHappiness Trainer, which also offers training to enhance focus, alertness, memory, and many positive feelings.
Dr. Jonathan Cowan, Ph.D., the CEO of Peak Achievement Training and designer of the Mood Elevator, states "We were very pleased to be able to incorporate something this valuable to so many people by making some special modifications to what we are currently offering. The Mood Elevator simultaneously energizes its users and improves their emotional control by activating a well-hidden part of the pre-frontal cortex that actually provides the civilized learned control over the limbic system. Although we do not wish to make any claims regarding depression due to the FDA's restrictions on device manufacturers, we believe that the major improvements experienced by the subjects in this study speak for themselves about stopping the blues."
Dr. Cowan will be available for interviews and media appearances in New York from March 5 to 8. The Mood Elevator can be the focus of a fascinating demonstrative TV segment. Dr. Walker is available for interviews in Dallas.
