The Municipal Art Society of New York presents the 4th annual MAS Summit for New York City

NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday and Friday October 17 and 18, The Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) will host the 2013 MAS Summit for New York City at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall. With a historic election this fall and the one year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy approaching, this year's Summit themes—Innovation and Leadership—will tackle the challenges and opportunities facing New York City.
The Summit will feature 40+ sessions over two days, bringing together more than 100 thought leaders working in urban planning and design, real estate, sustainability and cultural and economic development, who will discuss how to build a globally competitive city that is socially, economically and environmentally resilient. The MAS Summit will outline an agenda for ensuring livability for all New Yorkers, with principal support from The Rockefeller Foundation and the Ford Foundation.
Highlights of the Summit will include presentation of
- The fourth annual MAS Survey on Livability. This annual poll, conducted by The Marist Poll and supported by The Rockefeller Foundation, reveals New Yorkers' opinions about the pros and cons of living and working in New York City.
- Resilience: Rebuild by Design Competition. Organizers from Rebuild by Design—10 international design teams chosen to work on developing resilience solutions for the Sandy-affected region, an initiative of the President's Hurricane Sandy take force and HUD—will discuss the resilience challenges and opportunities that have emerged thus far, and will outline next steps in the MAS-supported design phase, beginning November 1, where teams will work with local partners to develop resilience initiatives potentially eligible for Federal Community Block Development- Disaster Response funding.
- Penn Station Report. MAS will present the report, "Penn 2023: Envisioning a New Penn Station, the Next Madison Square Garden, and the Future of Midtown West," which outlines next steps for rebuilding Penn Station.
MAS President Vin Cipolla and MAS Board Chair Eugenie Birch will lead a roster of dozens of scheduled speakers working in urban planning, real estate, sustainability, cultural and economic development, community engagement and related fields. Speakers include Dr. Judith Rodin, president of the Rockefeller Foundation; Republican Mayoral Candidate Joe Lhota; First Deputy Mayor Patricia E. Harris; NYC Council Member Daniel R.
