WASHINGTON, Aug. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) today announced headline speakers for the 2013 NAWC Water Summit, to be held October 6–9, 2013 in San Diego, California.

Based on the overwhelming positive feedback from 2012 Summit attendees, returning as keynote speakers this year will be Mark Halperin, editor at large and regular contributor to TIME and senior political analyst for MSNBC, joined by John Heilemann, national affairs editor for New York Magazine's Power Grid column and political analyst for MSNBC. During their keynote address on Monday, October 7 at 11:30 a.m. EDT, Halperin and Heilemann return to provide Summit attendees with an update on our country's evolving political landscape and its impact on the water industry. Known widely for their New York Times bestseller and Emmy Award-winning "Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, Palin and McCain, and the Race of a Lifetime," the authors will next release "Double Down: Game Change 2012," about the 2012 Presidential election.

The second day of the 2013 NAWC Water Summit will feature chief analyst at Wikistrat and New York Times best-selling author Thomas P.M. Barnett, who has been profiled on the front-page of The Wall Street Journal and has written for Esquire, Foreign Policy, Wired, National Review and The Washington Post. Barnett has been interviewed by Rolling Stone, The Economist, TIME and CNN, in addition to numerous foreign media. He is described by U.S. News & World Report's Michael Barone as "one of the most important strategic thinkers of our time." As an expert on globalization, the impact of climate change and the critical role of infrastructure development, Barnett will deliver a keynote on Tuesday, October 8 at 11:30 a.m. EDT.

Both keynote sessions will include interactive question and answer sessions with Summit participants.

This year's 2013 NAWC Water Summit will provide a dynamic forum for leaders in the water industry, government officials and other key stakeholders to exchange ideas, learn from one another and share solutions that sustain businesses and communities. The theme of the 2013 NAWC Water Summit – Public Service & Private Enterprise: Bold Discussions. Real Solutions. – highlights the importance of public-private collaboration in the water industry, as well as innovative approaches and critical solutions to issues faced by communities, such as aging water infrastructure.

"The men and women of the private water industry deliver safe, reliable water service to communities large and small across the nation every day," said Michael Deane, executive director of the NAWC. "The 2013 NAWC Water Summit provides an opportunity for these dedicated professionals to come together with their peers, as well as influencers and leaders from the political, business and regulatory worlds to help create the future of public-private cooperation in the water industry."
