The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and The National Breast Cancer Foundation Partner to Save Women's Lives
SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In an announcement today by the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (www.NHCLC.org), also known as the Hispanic Evangelical Association, the nation's largest Christian Hispanic organization, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (NBCF) will serve as the Senior Partner of the NHCLC's Healthy Families Directive -- partnering to save women's lives.
Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the NHCLC, said, "The heart of all we do is captured best in the following phrase 'saving lives'. The idea that the Church of Jesus Christ can preach the vertical message of salvation and horizontally save lives by providing resources that will educate women regarding breast cancer resonates with every fiber and fabric of my being. The NHCLC and NBCF, together, will save lives."
The NHCLC has designated the first Sunday of October as National Hispanic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and they are collaborating with NBCF to launch a volunteer program that will mobilize Hispanic churches to save lives through early detection of breast cancer.
NBCF (www.nbcf.org) has become a stabilizing force in the lives of hundreds of thousands of women who have reached a crossroad in their lives from their encounter with breast cancer. Through its National Mammography Program, NBCF addresses the growing concern of over 50 million uninsured people in America by providing free mammograms and diagnostic services in all 50 states through its hospital partners.
"Early detection saves lives, but language and cultural differences, fear of the medical system, and a lack of insurance prevent Hispanic women from being diagnosed and treated early," says NBCF Founder & CEO, Janelle Hail. "Through our partnership with NHCLC we can give hope to millions of Hispanic women across the country by providing free early detection services for the uninsured and breast cancer resources in the Spanish language."
Recognized as one of the leading breast cancer organizations in the world, NBCF's mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need. NBCF provides women Help for Today… Hope for Tomorrow® through its National Mammography Program, Beyond The Shock®, Early Detection Plan, MyNBCF online support community, and breast cancer research programs.
In addition, NBCF provides resources for the Hispanic Community (http://es.beyondtheshock.com/), not only for women but also for the husbands, children, and churches -- a critical element.
Mrs. Eva Rodriguez, Pastor of Cantico Nuevo Centro Cristiano de Adoracion in Sacramento, Calif. and NHCLC Board Member, said, "We are honored to partner with the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This is a provident relationship -- one that will literally save lives in the Hispanic community by increasing education and awareness of early detection. This disease affects families so we stand united with NBCF in our dedication and efforts to educate grandmothers, mothers, and daughters -- sharing our commitment to serving families."
