The AORN Seal of Recognition confirms that the content of the Preoperative Stop and Go Sign has undergone thorough quality review by AORN and is consistent with AORN's Guidelines for Perioperative Practice. While not a product endorsement, the Seal of Recognition demonstrates that the educational and informative material is sound and reliable and based on the AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice.
The Preoperative Stop and Go Sign is an interactive checklist that optimizes the preoperative process and enhances patient safety in the OR. Utilizing this sign, operating room staff can assess the patient's readiness for the OR from a distance, identify preoperative delays and perform earlier intervention. The Stop/Go Sign consists of a layer of adhesive stickers that form a red "STOP" sign, covering a backing sheet showing a green "GO" sign. Stickers peel away individually and as the sign transforms, it illustrates clearly the patient's progression to readiness. The academic journal Anesthesiology has published the sign in an article titled "Images in Anesthesiology: The Preoperative Stop/Go Sign", written by the inventors.
According to Lisa Spruce, DNP, RN, ACNS, ACNP, ANP, CNOR, AORN's Director of Evidence-Based Perioperative Practice, the AORN Seal of Recognition assures providers and patients that the content of the Preoperative Stop and Go Sign material has undergone thorough review by AORN. While not an endorsement, the Seal of Recognition is confirmation that the materials meet AORN guidelines.
