The Silk Road Society Presents "Club Caravan" Black Tie After-Party
DJ Ani Quinn, Dancing, and Ancient Artwork Mark Sackler's 25th Anniversary Gala
WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In celebration of the Arthur M. Sackler Galleries 25th anniversary, the Silk Road Society—the new membership for young professionals at the Freer|Sackler—will host Club Caravan, a black-tie after-party at the Sackler Gallery, on November 29 from 8:30 p.m.-12:00 a.m. Club Caravan directly follows the Sackler Gallery's 25th Anniversary Gala. Artists, collectors, international diplomats, and royalty will converge for this spectacular celebration. Proceeds from the evening will exceed $1 million and support an endowment for contemporary Asian art.
Club Caravan guests will enjoy open bars exclusively stocked with MoëtHennessy wines and spirits, gourmet dessert buffets—including a special tasting by celebrity chef Floyd Cardoz, and dancing to beats by acclaimed NYC DJ Ani Quinn. The evening features the landmark exhibition Roads of Arabia: Archaeology and History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, an eye-opening look at Saudi Arabia's ancient, pre-Islamic past.
Club Caravan guests will be the first to experience an exciting 3D digital cave exhibition: Pure Land: Inside the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang. The digital cave recreates one of the famous cave temples of Dunhuang, China, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Though the actual caves are closed to the public to ensure their preservation, visitors to the Sackler can enjoy them virtually through an immersive 3D experience combining laser scanning, high-resolution photography, and animation.
"Club Caravan—with its fantastic international guest list, exquisite décor, sublime art, and lively atmosphere—will be a triumphant conclusion to Washington's social event of the season," says Winston Bao Lord, D.C. tech entrepreneur and chair of the Club Caravan Host Committee.
Tickets to Club Caravan include a 1-year membership in the Silk Road Society and are available at two levels: Caravan Level ($200) and Oasis Level ($325). Tickets may be purchased at www.asia.si.edu/support/club-caravan.asp. For information, contact [email protected] or (202) 633-0520.
