The Start of Preparations for the 'Draining Water Festival 2014'
CHENGDU, China, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Dujiangyan -- the great diversion system constructed by civilian governor, Li Bing, over the Shu area -- was constructed in 256 BC. With 2,270 years irrigating the Chengdu Plain, 'Draining Water Festival 2014' will be held on 5-7 April in Dujiangyan city, to express gratitude to the irrigation system's builders. The festival will make some changes this year, so tourists can experience more in this festival.
'Draining Water Festival' was recognized as a non-material cultural heritage site in 2006, due to its long and distinct history. The great achievement of Dujiangyan shows the succession of irrigating culture from Great Yu, and the reappearance of the long history of agriculture.
Apart from a series of traditional activities such as the draining water ceremony, "Li Bing patrolling river" show, and the opening the gate of the ancient town ceremony, the festival will continue the 'water baby' ceremony, which attracts many tourists. This year's festival is the first one where tourists can buy tickets to take part in this ceremony.
Besides the 'Draining Water Festival 2014', tourists can also visit the Qingcheng-Dujiangyan site to see firsthand the fabulous design of the dam and feel the silence of Mount Qingcheng. Tourists can also visit pandas and taste the local food in this ancient town. Everywhere in Dujiangyan, tourists can experience the city's unique charm.
