Sponsored by Deloitte Tax LLP with program management support by the Deloitte Foundation, Deloitte FanTAXtic originated in 2002 and is designed to familiarize students with the tax profession early in their academic careers. The interactive case study competition includes case simulation, role playing and presentations to help students better understand the types of experiences and business challenges they can expect from a career in tax.

"This competition provides students with an opportunity to participate in real life scenarios that are common in today's complex business environment," said Carl Allegretti, chief executive officer, Deloitte Tax LLP.  "The enthusiasm and depth of talent represented on these collegiate teams is inspiring and speaks well for the future of our profession.  We congratulate the winning team from the University of Wisconsin and all the other Deloitte FanTAXtic competitors."

Texas A&M University won second place in the competition, receiving $1,000 per student and an institutional award of $5,000. The University of Southern California won third place, receiving $500 per student and $2,500 for their school.

All other competing teams in Deloitte FanTAXtic were awarded honorable mentions. Schools represented included Brigham Young University, Fordham University, University of Northern Colorado, St. John Fisher College, College of William & Mary and North Carolina State University.

"Our goal is to offer an interactive approach to learning that challenges students to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the classroom to a practical tax issue," said Carol Lindstrom, president, Deloitte Foundation. "Congratulations to all of this year's participants who worked together in their respective teams to develop and deliver high-quality, actionable solutions."

Each team participating in the national competition won the Deloitte FanTAXtic contest in their respective U.S. regions. Prior to the final FanTAXtic competition held Jan. 17-19, 2014, more than 71 teams from 49 colleges and universities participated in regional qualifier events held in 15 cities throughout the U.S.
