MENLO PARK, Calif., Jan. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The saying "money isn't everything" just may hold true, suggests an Accountemps survey. More than three-quarters (77 percent) of employees interviewed said they would continue to work in some capacity if they were to receive a financial windfall; 36 percent of this group would choose to stay in their current jobs.

The survey was developed by Accountemps, the world's first and largest specialized staffing service for temporary accounting, finance and bookkeeping professionals, and conducted by an independent research firm. It includes responses from more than 450 employees 18 years of age and older who work in an office environment in the United States.

Workers were asked, "If you were to suddenly strike it rich, which of the following best captures your attitude about work?" Their responses:

I would quit working

23%

I would stay at my job

36%

I would continue to work but look for a new type of job

41%

Don't know

1%

"Work is a fundamental source of fulfillment," said Bill Driscoll, a district president with Accountemps. "Virtually everyone daydreams of receiving a financial windfall and retiring to a tropical island. But most people would choose to continue working in some capacity to stay active or because they enjoy what they do."
