TI's Peter Balyta to head Education Technology division; Melendy Lovett to retire

DALLAS, Feb. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) today announced that Peter Balyta, Ph.D., has been named president of the company's calculator division, Education Technology, following the retirement of Melendy Lovett who led the division for the past decade.

Balyta, 43, has been with TI for 14 years, all within Education Technology. He has held key leadership roles in marketing, sales and product strategy in North America, Europe and Asia.  "Peter combines a strong understanding of global markets with his earlier first-hand experience as a math educator and curriculum and instruction supervisor.  He has great appreciation for educators and channel partners with whom Education Technology works to increase student achievement in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education," said Rich Templeton, TI's chairman, president and CEO.

Lovett is a 20-year veteran of TI.  Under her leadership, Education Technology has become the world leader in math and science education technology.  TI has strengthened its partnership with educators worldwide by delivering innovative, purpose-built technology and professional development programs to improve math and science teaching and learning.  In her retirement, Lovett plans to pursue another career opportunity.

"Melendy leaves the Education Technology division in an outstanding market share position and with improved global recognition for the innovation it brings to math and science learning," Templeton said. "I thank Melendy for the excellent results she and her team have achieved and wish her all the best."
