NEW YORK, Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Mutual of America announced today that TnT (Tennis-n-Tutoring) was named a Merit Finalist in the 2012 Community Partnership Award competition.
TnT was launched in 2000 by former Wimbledon finalist MaliVai Washington as a way to develop champions in the classroom, on the tennis courts and throughout the community by enlisting volunteers and industry leaders as mentors and role models. In addition, family members participate to help encourage their children to reach beyond a high school education.
Now in its 13th year, TnT has a year-to-year retention rate of more than 80%, and 100% of its active students to date have graduated from high school on time. Partners include the City of Jacksonville and the United States Tennis Association.
"By providing a strong mentoring experience, TnT is helping to change the community and raise expectations for what is possible," says founder, MaliVai Washington. "Our aim is to foster leadership, sportsmanship, self-esteem, confidence, discipline, accountability, and the value of hard work, teamwork and individual effort."
