Top Pennsylvania Home Solar Installer Urges Commonwealth Residents to Take Advantage of Remaining Sunshine Program Incentives
With 94 Percent of Funds Utilized, Popular Program Could Cease as Early as June
PHILADELPHIA, May 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of Pennsylvania residents have saved millions of dollars adopting cleaner energy technologies by tapping into the commonwealth's Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Sunshine Program. Established with $100 million to provide grants to help spur mass adoption of renewable power sources, the program already has paid out $56.7 million of the $60 million allocated for residential PV solar projects.
As of May 18, only $3.3 million of the incentive money dedicated to residential PV solar remains in the Sunshine Program to fund 5.8 megawatts at $.75 per watt. Strong response to the program across the commonwealth has government and business leaders encouraging anyone interested in converting to solar power to do so quickly, before the incentives run out, likely early this summer.
Astrum Solar – the number one installer of home solar systems utilizing Sunshine Program funds, according to the DEP – reports the incentives have been instrumental in lowering the upfront cost to homeowners who have made the transition from traditional energy sources to solar power. Since 2009 when the program's funds first became available, Astrum Solar has installed 40 percent more residential solar systems in Pennsylvania than any other company. Through its multiple area offices, Astrum Solar has serviced customers in 50 of the state's 67 counties, including Alleghany, Dauphin, Lancaster and Montgomery.
"Initiatives such as Pennsylvania's Sunshine Program have made it more affordable than ever for homeowners to switch from energy consumers to clean energy producers," said Astrum Solar President Vadim Polikov, PhD. "Pennsylvanians already have taken advantage of more than 90 percent of the funds allocated under the program for home PV solar, and demand remains strong. Anyone who is evaluating solar power should act now, while this funding is still available."
