NEW YORK, Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Trees New York announced that 23 high school students will survey street trees around NYC iSchool in Hudson Square on October 24th, 2011. Trees New York's Young Urban Forester program teaches students to think about the urban environment not just as a topic of study, but as a viable and compelling career choice. High school students meet professionals, receive hands-on field training and use the technologies commonly used in environmental analysis including GPS and GIS. The students' neighborhood street tree survey will help identify community tree priorities as they develop their mapping skills.
This event is one of hundreds of re-greening efforts throughout the country being promoted during October, which has been declared National NeighborWoods™ Month by the national nonprofit Alliance for Community Trees (ACTrees). Trees New York is a member of ACTrees' national network of local green organizations.
