TUCSON, Ariz., July 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Tucson's 2nd Saturdays in July will be International, featuring reggae to belly dancing to Ballet Folklorica, all Downtown on July 14.
Scott Avenue will be closed from Congress to Jackson Street, just south of Broadway, for the event. The Cricket Kids' area will again take over the Providence parking lot on Jackson Street and will feature the "G" rated movie, "Shrek" (2000), free of charge. The movie begins at 7:30pm. The Scott Avenue stage will be on the north end of Scott at Congress Street. Scott Avenue and Jackson Street will be lined with vendors, food trucks, street performers and outdoor musicians.
The KHIT/KIIM Scott Avenue stage will continue to showcase the eclectic talents of Tucson's artists. Opening the evening at 6 p.m. is Ballet Folklorico La Paloma, a troupe that highlights centuries-old dance traditions of Mexico and has been honoring those traditions for three decades. See them before they leave town to perform in London for the 2012 Summer Olympics! Next up will be Tucson's all original, modern piano jazz band Collin Shook Trio, followed by local indie pop/rock darlings Roll Acosta, fresh off of a West coast tour and enjoying a new album release. Belly Dance Tucson will entertain just before the rocking funk/reggae of Funky Bonz, who is geared up to bring the family-friendly boogie.

FC TUCSON SOCCER will feature the FC Tucson Street Soccer Showdown. This is soccer in its purest form: absent of age restrictions, uniform restrictions or even skill restrictions. It's just 10 players in a 5v5 matchup playing soccer because they love it; on the street, spontaneously. The result takes a backseat to the process and the buildup and the fun everyone has just kicking the ball around cleverly, trying to avoid each other. Don't let another 2nd Saturday go by without hitting the street with just the clothes you're wearing, your friends and a desire to play soccer. It's free to play. For more information email [email protected]. |
During construction, all the parking garages will be open and accessible from detours. Automobile traffic coming from the east will be detoured to Toole Avenue westbound and 6th avenue will become two-way during the construction. From the south, enter Downtown by going northbound on either 6th Avenue or Stone Avenue. Traffic coming from the north can also enter Downtown on Stone Avenue. The easiest parking remains at: (1) Centro Garage, located just as you enter downtown from the east; (2) The Depot Garage, located below the Martin Luther King building; (3) the Pennington Garage, accessed via Pennington Street from either Stone Avenue or 6th Avenue.; and (4) La Placita garage on Jackson Street, which will now be very convenient to the Cricket Kids Area.
2nd Saturdays runs from 6pm to 10pm. Sponsors are: Jim Click Automotive Team, Cricket, Carondelet Health Network, KOLD Channel 13, KHYT/KIIM Radio, KXCI 91.3FM Community Radio, MEB Property Management and Providence Service Corp.
