Two Flight Attendants Release Comedy Movie Script Titled Trumpulence
LOS ANGELES, May 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Cathy Torres and Ellen Simonetti will post their hilarious and timely new script, Trumpulence, online for all to see.
The script follows a dysfunctional American airline crew on a trip to the Central American country of 'Colonagua.' "And boy are they in for a ride," says script co-author Torres.
The crew's trip coincides with President Trump's controversial trade conference in that country. Right before they leave, Trump hurls insults like "banana-peddling buffoon" at Colonaguan President Francisco Chulón and his people.
The crew is staying at the Trump International Hotel in Colonagua, which quickly becomes a hotbed of anti-Trump and anti-American protests. It doesn't matter that many of the crewmembers didn't vote for Trump and in no way agree with his speeches or policies. They're stuck.
Hilarity ensues as the crew must find a way out of the country before getting pummeled by protestors and each other. Can they keep it together through political differences, heel-breaking hardships, and anxious thoughts of cats back home?
"It's kind of a cross between Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, The Wizard of Oz, and Nixon," jokes co-author Simonetti. "But seriously, we're trying to portray the current bipolar political climate in the U.S. And, yes, I have had some serious political differences with members of my crews. But we all have to figure out how to get along and work together, otherwise the plane won't leave the gate."
Also along for the ride is a spiritual guru character, based on Byron Katie. According to Torres, there's a surprise twist at the end. "This whole Trump thing could have a very different ending. Read and you will see!" she laughs.
Torres and Simonetti started the script in January of 2016, way before Donald Trump won the Republican presidential nominee. "It was about a world where a fictitious dude with a fluorescent yellow combover becomes president," explains Simonetti. "Well, the day after the election, we thought our script--and our country--were toast," Torres elaborates. "We had to do some serious revamping, including changing the absurd fictitious president to the frighteningly real Donald Trump. We also renamed the script Trumpulence."
Torres is a current flight attendant for a major U.S. airline and Simonetti is a former flight attendant and famous blogger. Her book, based on her blog, is titled Diary of a Dysfunctional Flight Attendant: The Queen of Sky Blog.
Visit trumpulence.com for more information and to view the script. The script will be available on trumpulence.com on Thursday, May 25.
