Tyco Golf Skills Challenge 2012 Features Ryder Cup-Studded Field Of PGA Tour Pros
PALM BEACH, Fla., Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Five players from last month's memorable Ryder Cup Matches, including standout European performer Justin Rose, head a field of eight prominent PGA Tour stars set to compete in the 2012 Tyco Golf Skills Challenge. The competition among four two-man teams takes place on Monday, November 12, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL.
Rose and Ryder Cup teammate Peter Hanson will renew the intercontinental rivalry as one team, joined in the field by the American Ryder Cup duo of Dustin Johnson/Keegan Bradley, the veteran tandem of major championship winners, Mark O'Meara/Nick Price and the team of Zach Johnson/Kyle Stanley. Johnson and Bradley also have major titles and Stanley is the fourth year pro who won the Waste Management Phoenix Open earlier this year.
A total of $800,000 in prize money will be at stake in the 21st annual event, one of the longest-running post-FedExCup competitions sanctioned by the PGA Tour. Zach Johnson won the situational skills competition with partner Jerry Kelly last year. O'Meara and Price copped the title in 2010. Rose, Hanson, Bradley and Stanley are playing in the event for the first time.
The competition will be taped for broadcast on NBC Sports December 29-30 from 4-6 p.m. in all time zones. The Tyco Golf Skills Challenge, the only post-FedExCup event that remains on broadcast TV, is the only golf on network television that holiday weekend.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of America will receive a charitable donation from Tyco Integrated Security in conjunction with the event.
The six mainstay skills – Tyco Integrated Security Long Drive, Korbel Mid Iron, The Breakers Bunker Shot, Chip Shot, Tyco Integrated Security Trouble Shot, Korbel Short Iron – will be followed by the Tyco Integrated Security "Reverse Scramble," representing the seventh and eighth skills. Contrary to the traditional scramble format, the rules of the "Reverse Scramble" call for the opposing team to select which shot its rival twosome must play, adding a new dimension to the competition. The format is especially conducive to the Tyco Skills Challenge TV production approach, which showcases the personalities of the players, who are equipped with microphones throughout the event.
