The publication of the Future Cities 100 was timed to coincide with UBM's Future Cities' first anniversary. Launched on October 15, 2012, UBM's global community for city decision makers has had an incredible first year, amassing over 13,500 registered users, and winning 13 industry awards. The site has attracted input and participation from hundreds of global city leaders, including Janette Sadik-Khan, Commissioner of New York's Department of Transportation; Ron Huldai, Mayor of Tel Aviv; Jan Gehl, founding Principal of Gehl Architects; and Manny Diaz, former Mayor of Miami, to name a few.
"We wanted to celebrate the fantastic first year we've had by calling out the global innovators who are doing the most important work where future cities are concerned," said Nicole Ferraro, Editor in Chief of UBM's Future Cities. "Further, we wanted to do this in a way that would represent the voice of our global community – so we solicited their nominations for the FC 100 well ahead of time. The end result is a truly collaborative effort that calls out industry leaders who are fundamentally changing the course of the world's cities for the better."
