UChic's "Fashion With A Purpose" Line Debuts on Indiegogo to Help Fund Scholarships for Young Women
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A new Indiegogo project is launching today that aims to empower young women through their purchases. UChic, a mission-driven lifestyle brand for high school and college-aged women, is debuting its first-ever product -- the "Gracie", a computer case. The case, available on Indiegogo (keyword: UChic), will help fund the dreams of over 10 deserving young women with $1000 scholarships, kicking off the company's on-going commitment to funding the dreams of young women through its product sales.
There are more than 20 million high school and college-age girls in the U.S., each of whom has her own hopes and dreams. But with parents' limited expendable income and the high cost of college, these dreams can often be out of reach. UChic's model -- and the central goal of this Indiegogo campaign -- is to empower their consumers to change that.
"We believe that expenses should never stand in the way of big dreams, but our research found that 95 percent of young women in U.S. lack the financial support to pursue their goals in full. UChic sells products geared for the classroom and beyond that fund those critical out-of-classroom experiences and educational expenses that can change lives," said Christie Garton, founder and CEO of UChic. "We are excited to empower our consumers through their purchases to make a difference in the lives of young women. It's fashion with a purpose."
The "Gracie" case, named after 16-year-old Gracie Schram, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter and UChic Star Brand Ambassador, will support the company's "1,000 Dreams Scholarship" program. The program, launching today, provides high school and college-aged women with up to $1000 in funding for specific educational expenses and experiences that help cash-strapped young women go for their career goals and dreams.
"UChic is doing amazing work to empower and equip young women to go out there and achieve their dreams. For example, thanks to UChic's support, I'll be able to make a music video for my single "Wallflower," Gracie explained.
Indiegogo backers can purchase "The Gracie" tablet or laptop-sized case for $29, an early bird special, and then for $39. The team plans to ship the case by December 2014. The Indiegogo goal is $27,000, which will go exclusively to cover production costs of the case and fund the first 10 "1000 Dreams" scholarships.
