UHS-Pruitt Corporation Earns Clean Air Campaign - PACE Award
NORCROSS, Ga., May 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The UHS-Pruitt Corporation family of providers is always focused on delivering quality, state-of-the-art health care services, but was recently honored for a different kind of innovative programming. The Georgia Clean Air Campaign, working in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Transportation, is tasked with tackling traffic congestion problems and air pollution challenges by helping to create and support cost-effective demand management programs and services to Georgia employers, commuters and schools. The group leads the PACE Awards program which recognizes what they deem to be the best commute options programs in Georgia, and this year they named UHS-Pruitt Corporation for having the "Most Innovative Program".

UHS-Pruitt Corporation is headquartered in Norcross on a campus that now includes over 600 employees (including UniHealth SOURCE, UniHealth Select, United Hospice, and United Home Care Atlanta offices), but was started over forty years ago as a family-owned company in Toccoa – about 75 miles north. The company's growth over the past several decades lead to robust expansion which included several new offices in the Atlanta area. While opening new offices created hundreds of new jobs, it also presented challenges to those partners (employees) who were now faced with a long commute. After conducting employee surveys to develop a solution, and exploring several options, management decided to purchase and make available a daily shuttle that accommodates up to 16 people.
The new transportation option charges riders a fee per week to cover the costs, and those volunteering to drive the shuttle receive a discounted rate. The van gets to work early enough that it can be back on the road by 4 pm, allowing employees to spend more time at home and less in traffic. The response has been very positive and there is currently a waiting list to ride; therefore there are plans to purchase a second shuttle in the near future. "Participants in our Toccoa commuter program eliminate 2,400 miles of vehicle travel each week for less than the cost of a tank of gas," says Neil L. Pruitt, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "It was important that we find a solution for retaining talented employees, many of whom have been with the company for over a decade. This project has improved morale and provided a better quality of life for our partners, who in turn can provide a better quality of life for our patients."
