WASHINGTON, Oct. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. foreign policy returned to the spotlight in this week's presidential debate.  Seizing the moment for real voter insight on policy and international decision making, SnagFilms presents an exclusive live Washington, D.C. Social Screening™ of Michele Ohayon's S.O.S/State of Security – the fifth digital premiere in the Snag the Vote 2012 series, an ongoing initiative to inform voters through film and discussion.  On Tuesday, October 23rd, just two weeks before the November presidential election, Michele Ohayon's powerful film will premiere at Georgetown University's ICC Auditorium, including special guests Major General Paul Eaton and Professor Matthew Kroenig.

The digital premiere event for S.O.S, co-presented and moderated by Georgetown University's Hoyawood organization, will encourage voters to engage on foreign policy.  The film examines threats to national security and features Richard Clarke, the leading counter-terrorism official under four administrations.  Despite repeatedly warning government officials against Al Qaeda leading up to the 9/11 terrorist attack, Clarke was perhaps the only member of the administration to come before the 9/11 Commission with an emotional apology to victims' families for the country's lack of preparedness, and S.O.S argues that we are still unprepared. The event will be simulcast online at www.snagfilms.com/sos.

S.O.S/State of Security premieres on Tuesday, October 23rd at 7pm in Washington, D.C. and will be followed by a panel discussion with the film's Academy award-nominated director Michele Ohayon, as well as 30-year armed forces veteran Major General Paul Eaton, who appears in the film.  They will be joined by Matthew Kroenig, assistant professor of Government at Georgetown and a 2011 Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow in the Department of Defense, who worked on the development and implementation of U.S. defense policy and strategy in the Middle East.

Management of foreign policy and the government's knowledge of potential of terrorist attacks led to one of the most heated exchanges in Tuesday's debate, as the candidates sparred over the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which led to the death of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.  S.O.S provides historical context and uses Clarke's warnings and memorable apology before the 9/11 commission in 2009 to call for greater government transparency.

"Every American understands that we will likely face future terrorist attacks at home and abroad," says Rick Allen, SnagFilms CEO. "But what are the precise nature of these threats and how should our government and our citizens respond? Those are the questions powerfully addressed by S.O.S. We cannot imagine a more timely moment to bring the film to a live audience in the nation's capital, and the full online world."

S.O.S/State of Security premieres as a featured film in the online film festival Snag the Vote 2012 – independent films for independent voters – and will be available exclusively via SnagFilms for just two weeks after the 10/23 premiere.  The unprecedented, free, online film festival running through Election Day, showcases movies on snagthevote.com chosen to illuminate 10 key issues defining the 2012 presidential election (Economy and Jobs, Health Care, Immigration, the Environment, Foreign Affairs, Energy, National Security, Education, Civil Liberties, and the political process). Subsequent premieres are described at snagfilms.com/socialscreenings.  Watch, share, debate and decide.
