Understory, Inc. Recognized with Innovation Award, Continues Growth With Expanded Facilities, New Staff

MADISON, Wis., Aug. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Understory, Inc., a weather network and analytics company, has been named a winner of the 2016 Wisconsin Innovation Awards. The awards aim to celebrate innovation and highlight those organizations developing groundbreaking ideas throughout the state. This year's winners were selected from among 186 businesses spanning all parts of Wisconsin, representing large, medium, and small companies, startups, established businesses, and nearly all industries.

This award also highlights Understory's sustained rapid growth. The company, which relocated its headquarters to Madison earlier this year, has leased a newly renovated office space downtown and built the area's first machine shop. The machine shop, which will be fully operational by this fall, will be the center of Understory's ongoing development and prototyping of their RTi (pronounced Artee), a solar-powered weather station with no moving parts.

Their weather stations – currently deployed in Madison, Kansas City, Dallas, and Boston – have ushered in a new era for the weather industry that is both more economical and technologically advanced. With more than sixty stations deployed and hundreds more prepared to be deployed, Understory is in the midst of revolutionizing an industry that has fundamentally relied on the same technology for decades.

To support the rollout of Understory's network, the company has hired six additional employees and is seeking to hire four more before year's end.
