Second stage of Dawn-Parkway System expansion ready for commercial operation

CHATHAM, ON, Nov. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ - Union Gas today announced the commercial in-service of a $391 Million CAD expansion of natural gas pipeline and compression facilities that will move an incremental 0.4 PJ/d (.36 Bcf/d) of natural gas supplies through its Dawn-Parkway System, which links markets in eastern Canada and the northeast U.S. with the Dawn Hub. The facilities placed into commercial service on time and on budget, comprise approximately 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) of 48-inch diameter pipeline between Hamilton and Milton, Ontario, and an additional compressor facility at the existing Lobo Compressor Station near London.

These facilities represent the second phase of a planned $1.5 Billion CAD investment in the Union Gas Dawn-Parkway System between 2015 and 2017. When all three phases of the expansion initiative are complete in 2017, Dawn-Parkway System capacity will have increased by 1.3 PJ/d (1.2 Bcf/d) for a total capacity of 8.2 PJ/d (7.6 Bcf/d), making it one of the most robust pipeline systems in North America.

The Union Gas Dawn Parkway System provides for the movement of natural gas from the Dawn Hub – the largest integrated natural gas storage facility in Canada located near Sarnia – to the Greater Toronto Area, where it interconnects with other pipelines serving eastern Canadian and U.S. markets. All compressor facilities along the Dawn-Parkway corridor have backup Loss of Critical Unit coverage, to ensure the reliability of firm service. With the emergence of abundant, affordable supplies located close to Ontario in areas such as Pennsylvania and Ohio, the demand for natural gas transportation along the Dawn-Parkway System continues to increase.
