Unisys Strengthens Analytics Capabilities of Forward! Platform by Signing OEM and Managed-Cloud Agreements with SAP
DALLAS, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that it has signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with SAP (NYSE: SAP) and plans to provide managed cloud services for the SAP HANA® platform. These agreements strengthen Unisys' capabilities to provide clients with real-time analytics solutions based on SAP® software on the Forward! by Unisys™ enterprise computing platform.
The OEM agreement will allow Unisys to deliver software licenses for SAP HANA in bundled data analytics solutions for banking, government, airlines, healthcare, and communications service providers.
The Unisys managed-services solution will enable clients to access analytics services for SAP HANA hosted in a Unisys- or partner-managed data center through a pay-for-use subscription. Initially targeted at the U.S. federal government, this approach will enable the increasing number of organizations with a "cloud-first" solution delivery policy to have on-demand access to hosted big-data applications while realizing the advantages in security, cost and operational efficiency that managed services can offer.
Unisys is one of the first SAP partners authorized by SAP to deliver a hosted implementation of SAP HANA for the U.S. federal government market.
"Using information in innovative ways to deliver tangible value to a business is one of the most crucial challenges in enterprise computing today, and SAP HANA is the premier technology for real-time decision analytics that can help achieve that goal," said Ed Coleman, Unisys chairman and CEO. "Through these new agreements with SAP, we intend to provide modern mission critical solutions that enable clients to exploit the power of information to drive their business forward."
"Customers want to work with business leaders and partners they can trust as they make their move to the cloud," said Jennifer Morgan, president, SAP North America. "Through these new agreements, SAP and Unisys intend to meet the growing market demand and the unique needs of our customers by offering them flexibility and simple new options to help them run their SAP software – and ultimately their business – more effectively."
Forward! by Unisys combines industry-standard Intel® Xeon® family processors in an advanced fabric architecture. With Forward!, Unisys plans to provide a reliable, high-performance platform with unique security attributes for SAP solutions.
Unisys secure partitioning (s-Par) software on the Forward! platform provides an outstanding performance environment for mission-critical applications. The s-Par software creates a partition with dedicated processing, memory and input/output resources for each application workload. This approach provides enhanced security and a distinct advantage over standard virtualization. It eliminates the resource contention that often accompanies virtualization, enabling faster, more predictable performance for data-intensive workloads.
The combination of secure partitioning with the advanced fabric architecture enables Forward! both to scale up – that is, add computing resources in a single node – or scale out by adding nodes in a clustered environment. Standard virtualization architectures typically can support only one virtual machine per node, and only in a scale-up implementation.
Unisys is showcasing the Forward! by Unisys platform at its Universe 2014 global client and partner event being held in Dallas this week.
