United Concordia Provides Dental Health Materials to Department of Defense Schools
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- United Concordia, one of the nation's largest dental insurers and administrator of the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP), provided educational dental health materials to children and teachers in state-side Department of Defense (DoD) elementary schools as part of the company's outreach initiatives during April's Month of the Military Child.
United Concordia sent oral health flip books and DVDs as teaching aids to all teachers who expressed interest in presenting an oral health lesson in their classrooms. The materials focused on proper brushing and flossing techniques, as well as the importance of maintaining a healthy mouth and eating nutritious foods. In addition, United Concordia provided each child with a dental health activity book, list of recommended dental readings and a toothbrush and floss to help keep their smiles healthy.
"What better way, as a dental contractor, to show our appreciation to our nation's military during Month of the Military Child than to provide information and products that can lead to a lifetime of healthy smiles," says Lawrence McKinley, DDS, United Concordia corporate vice president of DoD programs.
"Proper dental health care is an important part of maintaining overall health and should begin at an early age," adds McKinley. "It's heartbreaking to see a child's smile destroyed by severe tooth decay or to see a child who is not able to eat, sleep or pay attention in school due to a mouth full of toothaches. That's why we feel this outreach is so important. It affords children the opportunity to learn the importance of a healthy mouth before problems arise."
United Concordia sent more than 800,000 items to children and educational professionals at 35 DoD schools.
