"United We Jam" Music Event To Support Local Singers & Bands Who Lost Instruments During Hurricane Harvey
HOUSTON, Sept. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Local area singers and bands who lost musical instruments during Hurricane Harvey are getting some help from their own. Artists from across the country are being invited to perform on stage during "United We Jam," a day long music festival to be held Wednesday, September 13 from 3pm to 12 midnight at Firehouse Saloon in Houston, TX. Music lovers are welcomed to come and enjoy artists of all genres - rock, pop, country, jazz and more.
The event is also looking for those who wish to donate any music items that they may have to those who lost guitars, amplifiers, recording equipment and more during Hurricane Harvey. Those who lost their musical equipment in the hurricane are invited to come to the event and take what they need, free of charge.
The event is also being held to support Matthew's Hope Foundation, a Houston-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides assistance to those who are struggling with a drug addiction.
"'United We Jam' is about artists helping other artists," says Christopher Ewing of the Indie Music Channel, which is hosting the event. The popular music network features independent singers and bands from around the world. "The love of music is the tie that binds all indie artists together," says Ewing, "and when someone in the music community hurts, we all say 'ouch.' Hurricane Harvey did a number on everyone, including local artists in the area. For many of them, music isn't just a hobby, it's the way they make their living. So it's devastating when you lose the tools that you use to make that living."

Matthew Wedekind of Houston, TX was an outstanding trumpet player. He played trumpet in high school and was First Chair for all four years as part of the school's concert band. One day in college, Matthew was "sucker punched" while trying to defend his roommate during a bar fight and suffered a severe head injury. The opioid painkillers that he was prescribed following his head injury created a life-long battle with cocaine and heroin.
