National staffing company Spherion has launched the "Job or Career?" quiz to help workers figure out if they have a job or career mindset at work and provide insight on how to maximize their work experience, which can ultimately benefit their personal lives.
The quiz, which can be accessed from Feb. 26 to March 27, 2014 at BoostYourWork.com and on Spherion's Facebook page, guides workers through 10 questions designed to help them understand their views on work and whether they are in a job, career or in transition. This quiz is based on 15 years of findings from Spherion's Emerging Workforce Study, which tracks workers' mindsets and employers' practices in the context of social and economic events.
The most recent study found that 87 percent of workers rank work fulfillment and balance as the most important priority in the next step of their career. Yet 28 percent of workers aren't satisfied with their ability to balance work and their personal lives, and 34 percent of workers believe that the distinction between their work and personal life is not very clear these days. To achieve this balance, workers need to figure out if they are in a job or a career mindset and whether their work is helping or hindering their overall well-being.
"Although workers are more aware of what they need from their supervisors and their companies to make them happy and fulfilled, it's also important to know if their work aligns with both their personal and professional goals," said Spherion Division President Sandy Mazur. The 2012 Spherion Emerging Workforce Study was conducted online or by phone within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Spherion between May 16th 2012 and July 6th 2012 among 225 Human Resource Managers. Results were weighted as needed to reflect the composition of US companies, based on company revenue. An online survey of 2,035 employed adults was also conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Spherion between May 10, 2012 and June 8, 2012. Results were weighted as needed for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income to represent the target population. No estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated; a full methodology is available.
