The Bay Area will showcase innovations in consumer health technology on October 7 with the first Body 2.0 expo: a rare opportunity for consumers to try out the latest health tools and apps and preview new technologies in development.
"At Body 2.0, you can try dozens of new gadgets and apps such as online personal trainers, sleep sensors for insomniacs, health advisors, medication reminders and more," said Indu Subaiya, Co-Chairman and CEO of Health 2.0. "You'll also get firsthand tips from Everest-climbers, elite trainers, pilates gurus, foodies, nutrition scientists and other nationally recognized health experts on how to upgrade your body to lead a healthier and more active life."
Organizers have kept the price of admission modest to give consumers access to hands-on demonstrations of how these tools and technologies can improve their lives. "We're living in an amazing time," said Alan Greene, MD, founder of DrGreene.com. "Never before has it been possible for people to have such insight into their own bodies, to enjoy taking such practical steps to optimize their health, and to use such cool tools to help them get there. This gathering is a celebration and exploration of the human body in the 21st century." Greene, author of Raising Baby Green will be the keynote speaker at the expo.
Body 2.0 is part of Health Innovation Week in San Francisco, a 10-day showcase of new ideas about innovation in health care delivery models and technological solutions designed to transform quality, safety, and cost effectiveness of care.
The festive expo will also feature free healthy food samples from companies including Plum Organics and Horizon Dairy, prize giveaways, and music by DJ Baron Von Luxury. Sponsors include WEGO Health, Safeway O Organics, and Pilljogger.
Speakers
In addition to Greene, speakers at Body 2.0 will include:
- Linda Fogg-Phillips, the author of two books about Facebook and parents, will define how digital technology is making it possible for people to transform their bodies and provide a road map to Body 2.0.
- Keith D'Amelio, formerly the head strength and conditioning coach for the Toronto Raptors and an assistant athletic trainer with the Boston Celtics, will share the NIKE SPARQ Performance Methodology that some of the world's best athletes use to optimize performance.
- Arlene Blum, a mountaineer, writer, environmental health scientist who in 1978 led the first team of women (all Americans) to climb Annapurna in Nepal will discuss how individuals can overcome challenges in life.
- Krisna Lee Hanks, the founder of East Bay Pilates, Emeryville, Calif., will discuss how core strength and performance longevity create healthier organizations.
