Urban Conflict Championship Presents 'UCC 2: STRIKEDOWN'

JERSEY CITY, N.J., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 14, 2010, Jersey City's National Guard Armory will be the site of the next major Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event to take place directly outside of New York City – "UCC 2: STRIKEDOWN."  This is the second event of the Tri-State area's new championship fight series: Urban Conflict Championship (UCC).

The first event of the series "UCC 1: MERCILESS" took place on March 19, 2010, hosting over 1,800 people.  The fight card featured 9 exhilarating professional MMA battles, with only one fight ending in a judge's decision.  The remaining bouts ended via Knockout, Referee Stoppage, or Submission.  Highlights from UCC 1: MERCILESS were re-aired on national television by HDNet Fight's Inside MMA.    

The lineup for UCC 2 hails fighters from a number of distinguished schools in the area including AMA Fight Club, American Top Team, Bomb Squad, Gold Team, Iron Horse, Renzo Gracie Academy, Ricardo Almieda BJJ, and Tiger Schulmann.  The main event of the evening will feature UCC 1: MERCILESS Champion Ryan Contaldi (7-3-0) vs. Dante Rivera (14-7-0), a jiu-jitsu black belt who previously fought on Season Seven of the television series The Ultimate Fighter:  This event will also feature the UCC's first championship title fight, between lightweight contenders John Cholish (3-1-0) of Renzo Gracie Academy and Hitalo Machado (6-3-0) of American Top Team.  

UCC 2: STRIKEDOWN will undoubtedly feature some of the most competitive professional fights ever witnessed in the state of New Jersey.  In addition to the fight card, the event will also draw attention from the controversy of promoting a major MMA event directly outside of New York City. The state of New York continues to uphold its ban on the sport of MMA despite the efforts of industry leaders lobbying for legalization.  New York Governor David Paterson and Secretary of State Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez have both contributed to the debate, arguing the legalization of the sport will create service jobs and immediate relief for the State's fiscal budget.  New York remains one of five states that have not yet legalized MMA, including Alabama, Connecticut, Vermont, and West Virginia.
