Urbcam Michigan LLC Announces Opening of The Lofts at The Union at Dearborn
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Urbcam Michigan LLC, a Bloomfield Hills based real estate investment company, today announced the expansion of its student housing facility located in Dearborn with the addition of 99 new beds in 63 units. The new development will be known as The Lofts at The Union at Dearborn. The facility, part of The Union at Dearborn, which is managed by UCC Management Co., is located across Evergreen Road from the University of Michigan- Dearborn (UMD), and provides housing for students primarily from UMD as well as Henry Ford Community College and other institutions of higher learning within Wayne County.
The Lofts were retrofitted into an existing building that once housed an engineering testing facility for Ford Motor Company. Construction of The Lofts was started in December 2014 and completed just in time to facilitate the transfer of 65 residents from the first phase of the facility on August 11. DeGrandis Contracting LLC of Ypsilanti was the General Contractor on the project and Scott Bowers of Bowers & Associates of Ann Arbor was the architect. The new development brings the total beds for The Union at Dearborn including the first phase to 604 beds in 208 units.

Residents of The Lofts will enjoy the same amenities available to residents of the first phase including a 24 hour fitness gym, computer lab, use of the Victors Den for recreation and study, an indoor basketball court, a 24 hour onsite market and a recently installed outdoor sand volley ball court. Consistent with the first phase, rents at The Lofts are all-inclusive, covering all utilities including cable and internet, complete furnishings, a flat screen TV and all major appliances. In addition, one and two bedroom units in The Lofts include a washer and dryer. The new development has many units with high ceilings and also includes a 3,500 square foot enclosed courtyard known as The Atrium which utilizes 18 skylights to provide natural lighting to the interior.
