US Airways Named Great Place to Work for Women in Arizona Airline Earns Praise for Creating Exceptional Opportunities for Women
TEMPE, Ariz., March 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- US Airways (NYSE: LCC) today was named as a recipient of the Top 25 Workplaces for Women award by az magazine for creating one of the best workplaces for women in Arizona. The carrier earned praise from a panel of judges for the percentage of women in leadership positions, programs and practices that demonstrate a commitment to hiring and retaining women and for providing a family-friendly work environment.
The objective of az magazine's Top 25 Workplaces for Women in Arizona program is to identify a list of Arizona's best workplaces for women that empower leadership, diversity and innovation for women.
"We are appreciative of this honor that recognizes the efforts we have undertaken to create a culture that recognizes and promotes a diverse team throughout all levels of the organization," said Elise Eberwein, US Airways executive vice president, people, communications and public affairs. "Our focus on mentoring future leaders, along with strengthening our diversity recruitment and training efforts, will continue to position US Airways as a company that all of our employees enjoy working for and an airline our customers enjoy flying."
US Airways excelled in the percentage of women in management positions and the percentage of female employees in Arizona. More than 45 percent of the carriers' Arizona employees are women, and more than 40 percent hold management positions, including six at the corporate officer level. In addition, two of the airline's nine Board seats are currently filled by women.
Today's award complements two other employer recognition awards recently earned by US Airways. For the second year in a row, US Airways was the only airline named by LATINA Style magazine as one of the 50 best workplaces for Hispanic women, and earlier this year, The Phoenix Business Journal named Kerry Hester, senior vice president of operations planning and support, as a recipient of its 2012 Women In Business awards, which recognizes the top 25 women business leaders in Phoenix.
