U.S. Army War College Selects Blackboard to Train Elite Military Leaders
Cloud Learning Platform Will Make Course Materials More Accessible
WASHINGTON, April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army War College (USAWC), an elite institution that trains high-ranking members of the military, has selected Blackboard to provide a teaching and learning platform in the cloud, the company announced today. USAWC joins nearly 40 Army schools nationwide that already use Blackboard solutions for their online training programs through the company's partnership with the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).
Blackboard will provide a comprehensive training and learning environment for USAWC's Resident Program and Distance Education Program (DEP), a rigorous, two-year program that provides graduate-level instruction to senior military officers and civilians to help develop competencies necessary for senior leadership positions.
The platform, which replaced USAWC's legacy training system, will be hosted in the company's private cloud, allowing for easier course access than locally hosted platforms. Instructors will have more flexibility in assigning learning content, and military leaders will have easier access to course materials, having only to authenticate with a single username and password.
"USAWC's distance education program has a long history of educating highly accomplished military leaders and arming them with strategic skills necessary to wage a successful military campaign," said Maurice Heiblum, senior vice president of the higher education, corporate and government markets for Blackboard. "There is no room for gaps in training our military elites, and we are honored to partner with USAWC to help them prepare military personnel in a way that truly fosters collaboration and real-time engagement."
USAWC's learning environment, powered by Blackboard, extends far beyond a traditional learning management system by facilitating virtual classes through unlimited Web conferencing and allowing for mobile access to course content so learners can create and view important information from their personal devices.
