US Billion Dollar Essential Oil Company Partners With FarmUpJamaica.org
650 Distributors Volunteer for "Day Of Service" & $5Million to Benefit Jamaican Students and Farming Community
UNIONDALE, N.Y., Feb. 25, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- 650 American tourists spent a "day of service" planting 10-acres of high-grade, organic ginger at the Mackfield property in Westmoreland, Jamaica on January 22, 2015. They volunteered with local residents and students of the Knockalva Agricultural School, through Farm Up Jamaica's Plant Supn' Ginger Farm Initiative. The Ginger planting project launched as a partnership between dōTERRA, the world's largest seller of essential oils and Farm Up Jamaica Ltd., a non-profit organization working to help revitalize the agricultural sector in Jamaica, through farmer assistance.
Upon his return to New York, Neil Curtis, founder of Farm Up Jamaica Ltd., reported that the project was a huge success on many levels. "We can replicate this concept on a bigger scale in Jamaica, many times over. This venture has helped create jobs, business opportunities, and inspiration for Jamaicans and we greatly appreciate the outpouring support from dōTERRA. We are certainly looking for more partnerships, in support of our mission. For decades, thousands of Jamaican farms have laid dormant, as the nation imports most of its food- putting a strain on the economy. Going forward, we will continue to offer Plant Supn' Excursions throughout Jamaica's reputable hotels, with the hope that visitors will take advantage of such a hands-on and compassionate way to give back," he stated.
"We are thrilled to be in beautiful Jamaica, planting some of the best ginger in the world. We want our efforts to impact the lives of Jamaicans in this community," stated Gregory Cook, executive vice-president of dōTERRA. Cook also promised that a local Jamaican ginger oil processor would produce the refined ginger oil from the harvest, for dōTERRA to purchase back. dōTERRA's commitment to Jamaica didn't stop at the ginger farm. After getting a sense of Farm Up Jamaica's work ethic and dedication, dōTERRA's Healing Hands Foundation donated J$5,000,000 toward a much-needed, solar-powered drying facility/dorming quarters. This facility will resolve the issue of current deplorable student housing. These students will learn hand-on agricultural processing skills and share in the generated revenue.
