FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2: FORD MODEL A GOES ON SALE
Profile America — Friday, December 2nd..A major event swept across the U.S. on this day in 1927 — as the Ford Model A finally went on sale. Ford had produced no cars for months, as its factories changed to the Model A from the legendary Model T of which 15 million were built over 19 years. The Model A was an immediate hit. The cheapest version was the Roadster at $365. By the time production stopped in 1932, close to 5 million Model A's had rolled off the assembly lines in more than a dozen different body designs. Today, thousands of Model A's are still driven by proud owners to antique car shows all over the country. Nearly 20 million people attend car shows in the U.S. each year. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
