WASHINGTON, Feb. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:
Profile America — Sunday, February 19th. Every time we use a phone, drive a car, watch TV, cross a bridge, or do myriad everyday activities, we are benefitting from the accumulated work of a most important, broad profession — engineering. To celebrate its contribution to our way of life, today kicks off National Engineers Week. During this time, engineering societies and corporations will reach out to schoolchildren and stage events across the country to call attention to the achievements of the profession. From iPods to skyscrapers to space rockets, engineers apply science, math and principles of matter and energy to provide useful things to us. There are nearly 59,000 engineering establishments in the U.S. Broadly defined, there are over 2 million engineers building our modern society. You can find more facts about America's people, places and economy, from the American Community Survey, at www.census.gov.
