The slow but steady growth of the perimeter market is stimulated by the aging population and their associated higher incidence of eye diseases. In addition, because of patient desire to preserve their sight, perimeter sales are relatively immune to economic crises.
Conversely, perimeters have long lifespans, often surpassing 15 years of service before replacement is required, which will limit market growth.
The growth of the perimeter market unit sales is expected to correspond with the aging U.S. demographic. The ASP for perimeters in Europe as a whole is very stable, however, between countries the ASP can vary by a factor of two in some cases. This difference can be attributed to each countries health system and whether they are optometrist or ophthalmologist focused. Optometrist usually need less advanced devices than ophthalmologists and tend to purchase much less expensive products.
Abstract
Some ophthalmic conditions can lead to tunnel vision, a disorder characterized by loss of vision. Glaucoma, a disease of the optic nerve, can ultimately result in visual field loss. Other diseases can alter the visual field, including those that affect other eye structures such as the retina and those that impact neurological function. To diagnose and measure the progression of diseases that affect visual field, patients are subjected to visual field tests. A perimeter is a device that is used for measuring a patient's visual field.
